Do I use it? Do I love it?

ree

Mercury retrograde. I'm going through my basement closet at home and my tack trunks at the barn. Decluttering. I come across things full of memories. The items take me back to a time that is not now. The past, the present, the future all seem to swirl confusingly in my mind and heart.

I stop going through stuff and pull a chair into James' feeding stall and sit with him while he eats. I ask James for his advice. James offers his wisdom without a pause to his munching:

"You can't force the letting go. But, you can create space for it. Sometimes we need to hold on to things. We can hold on until we are ready to let them go. That's ok. When the road forward is unclear, sometimes we just wait.

Hold on to what you love, and let the rest go. It's that simple. Often the things that we have contain memories or attachments to what was, but we don't even like or want the things. Let go of what you don't like or don't use. That's just clutter. And, it is clutter for the soul, too. But, keep what you love. Those things you cherish. It's about the moment. If you love it, keep it. Then next year you might let it go. The decision to keep or give away is an in the moment thing. No need to consider the future and what's ahead. Make your decision in this moment. Just ask yourself 'Do I use it? Do I love it?' and in that answer is your answer."

Love, James
