That's The Trick

James is eating his grain while I sit next to him. I am enjoying the summer evening, aware that the days are getting shorter. I notice that some of the short hairs of James' sleek summer coat are loosening their hold. James is starting to shed his summer coat, his body already beginning the transition from its summer coat to its winter one. Nature's wisdom. Like clockwork. Summer is a blur in my mind. It feels hard to make sense of time.
Picking up on my thoughts, James joins the conversation:
"We have all the time we need. Time is an illusion, really. We slow it down when we slow. That's the trick. We can play with time. We can bend it like hot metal. We influence time by becoming the right conditions for us to mold it. What is time anyway? On the other side of the veil time is more like space than it is like how we perceive it here. Time and space stretch out forever. It's sooooooooo expansive. That's why it took some effort to find you this lifetime. (James has always insisted that it was he that found me.) And, because you're so little. Just a speck in the beautiful cosmos. But, a special one to me."
James continues:
"I know you feel lighter now. The recent change brought peace. It is a new time. Now we can enjoy our sweetness together. Everyone always says how sweet I am. But, it's you that makes me sweet. And, cookies."
Love, James
